Twin Disc’s New Thruster Panel Makes Your Helm Look Good

We all know about the trend toward making docking easier, with pods, joysticks, thrusters and much more. But now Twin Disc has come up with something to make your helm station look better while you’re using this new technology: a new Digital Thruster Panel, which works with the company’s Express Joystick System and Power Commander electronic propulsion control, that not only looks good but is also easy to use.

The new upscale panel is made of polished stainless steel, designed for the marine environment, and works equally well with lower helm stations, flybridge stations or outside docking stations. Its’ ergonomic toggles are easy stop use, and it matches Twin Disc’s array of controls, in both single or twin versions.

Using the panel’s fingertip control, owners can move their boats away from a crowded dock, even when wind or current are a factor; indeed, with the control they can move their boats safety in any direction. Also, and I can attest to the fact that this is very useful, Twin Disc has built in a proportional hydraulic speed control of the bow and stern thrusters; the more you move the toggle, the more the thrusters move the boat.

Capt. Marty Mason, the Twin Disc manager for marketing and product development, says “the performance and response of our new Digital Thruster Panel to the slightest command is instantaneous. There’s never any hesitation.”

For extra safety, the panel has hydraulic fluid warning lights. The unit monitors the thrusters’ oil levels and will sound a warning if there are any problems with the oil level or temperature.

The panel also interfaces with the boat’s electronic propulsion control to provide more flexibility. On a boat with Twin Disc’s optional display panel, thruster commands are displayed as easy-to-read bar graphs at a glance.

Twin Disc has been in the marine power business for almost 100 years, making transmissions, joystick and electronic controls under some of the best names in the business, including Arneson Surface Drives and Rolla props.
