Prize-Winning Garmin GPSMAP Shows Engine Data

The new Garmin GPSMAP 7600 chartplotter with J1939 connection now provides engine information and is so easy to use and install that it just won the Best New Electronics award at the Newport International Boat Show. The judges, all industry experts, said the new unit “has a very intuitive user interface. Sensor data is served up very nicely and the custom setups are easy to understand and can be built in as little or as much space as needed. It has all of the features and capabilities needed and is extremely easy to use.”

The new unit is a redesign of Garmin’s GPSMAP 7600, introduced a few years ago, to add a J1939 connection with a dedicated CAN port for engine data. This addition is a major attraction for anyone upgrading their existing electronics or for a new installation. It applies to both gas and diesel engines, and provides a level of integration not available previously.

Garmin’s 7600 series of MFDs has a reputation for high performance and usability, coming in 7-, 8-, 10- and 12-inch sizes with a pinch-to-zoom touchscreen. They’re built with 10Hz GPS for fast and accurate position tracking and updates. And they have digital switching to show weather, radar, thermal and IP camera visibility. Garmin.com
