Owners Take 1,200-Mile Shakedown Cruise on New Outer Reef 610

How’s this for a shakedown cruise? The new owners of an Outer Reef 610 Motoryacht just took it from Fort Lauderdale to their home port of Newport, Rhode Island., covering 1,200 nm in five days and six hours with just two pit stops along the way. The good news: Sandana, the new boat, didn’t miss a beat along the way.

As part of the shakedown, Outer Reef Captain John Dennison helped drive the boat, while the owners, Dan and Sandy, got used to their new 61-footer and all its systems. They’re shown above enjoying the view from Sandana’s Portuguese bridge as they cruise into New York Harbor. Now they’ll enjoy cruising on their own in New England waters for the rest of the summer, while the company will have Sandana on display at the Newport boat show in September.

The Outer Reef 610 Motoryacht is designed for owner-operators. It’s easy to maneuver, it’s fuel efficient (with two 500-hp John Deere diesels), and it has large living spaces for comfortable cruising. The full-beam master stateroom is midships with a centerline king bed and a large en suite head with shower. The VIP stateroom is forward with a queen bed. And the guest cabin is to port with side-by-side berths. The VIP and the guest cabins share a head with shower.

Most of the time underway is spent in the pilothouse, with an adjoining galley. The salon is spacious and comfortable, while the aft deck is covered by an overhead extending from the flybridge to make alfresco dining enjoyable. A large swim platform is meant for easy access to water sports.

Specs.: LOA: 61’2”; Beam: 17’2”; Draft: 5’0”; Disp.: 93,000 lbs.; Water: 300 gals.; Fuel: 1,000 gals. Standard power: 2×500-hp John Deere diesels. http://outerreefyachts.com
