Sargo Building New Flagship 45 All-Weather Cruiser

Sargo Boats in Finland just announced that they’re building a new 45 flagship, an all-weather, seakindly family cruiser with Volvo power and a top speed of 30 knots. Sargo expects to launch the boat in the summer of 2022.

The new 45 is meant for safe cruising, even in rough conditions. The pilothouse offers protection from the elements in all types of weather, and the wide side decks, with high bulwarks, keep the crew safe at all times.

I have some personal experience with Sargos. A few years ago, Billy Black, the photographer, and I cruised through mid-coast Maine on a Sargo 28 (then called a Minor Offshore), with a single Volvo sterndrive. It was a thoroughly solid, seaworthy pocket cruiser, and we were sorry when we had to get off the boat.

The Sargo fleet now has eight models from 28 to 45 feet, and they’re all recognizable by their low profile, slightly raked windshield, and sturdy pilothouse (which has an opening sun roof overhead). The 45 has wide doors leading to the side decks, a big advantage in line handling and docking or simply moving around the boat.

There’s a single captain’s seat at the helm on the starboard side, with three seats across the way on the port side. Aft to port is a dinette/lounge that can seat eight people; a galley equipped for cruising is to starboard.

Most of the cockpit is protected overhead by the overhang from the cabin top. The cockpit has an L-shaped lounge with a table on a pedestal. Another social area is on the foredeck, with a U-shaped lounge.

An owner can choose either two or three cabins below; both versions have two full heads. The master stateroom is in the bow, with the guest cabin, holding two beds, amidships. The optional third cabin, also with two beds, is on the starboard side.

Owners also have a choice of power, all using Volvo D6 engines but linked to either sterndrives or Volvo’s IPS pod drives.  One choice is for twin 440-hp Volvo sterndrives; other choices involve twin 440-hp or twin 480-hp IPS drives.

Specs.: LOA: 47’9”; Beam: 13’9”; Draft: 3’9”; Disp.: 28,660 lbs.; Fuel: NA; Water: NA; Power: 2xVolvo 440-hp sterndrives; 2×440- or 2×480-hp Volvo IPS pod drives.  Read more:
