Beneteau just announced that it’s building a new GT 45, the newest in its popular line of express cruisers. With larger windows and more sophisticated systems, the new 45 replaces the 46 in Beneteau’s GT model line.

The new 45, to be launched in September, has sporty lines, a swept-back windshield and cabin top, and windows all around for visibility and natural light. It has two cabins, with an optional third, and two heads on the lower accommodation deck, which also has much-larger-than-usual windows in the hull sides.

Standard power comes from twin 380-hp Volvo diesels, while twin 440-hp IPS600 pod drives are optional upgrades. The GT 45 has Beneteau’s Air Step hull for an easy ride and maneuvering; a bow thruster is optional.

There are social areas on the foredeck, the bridge deck and all the way aft. The swim platform can be raised or lowered by hydraulics. An electric door opens to the tender garage; an electric winch makes it easy to retrieve the tender and get it back on board.

Two people can lounge on the aft deck sun pad. The cockpit also has a large U-shaped settee facing a wet bar with a sink, fridge, icemaker, electric grill and a retractable TV. The foredeck has a second sun pad with deck-level cushions; a canopy is optional.

The aft section of the bridge deck is open to the cockpit, although a patio door to protect passengers from the weather is optional. At the helm, Beneteau’s Ship Control technology is available; you can tap on a nav screen there or on a smart phone and control the boat’s functions, including air conditioning, zone lighting, bilge pumps, and access to engine data.

The lower deck is finished with gray walnut and white lacquered joinery. The galley is meant to rival a small domestic kitchen, with a fridge/freezer and dishwasher. The owner’s cabin is full-beam amidships, with a private head and separate shower.

The VIP cabin is in the bow with a scissor berth that can be arranged as a double bed or two singles. It has access to the forward head and shower, which also can be accessed from the lower galley area. The seating area in the dinette can be replaced with a third cabin.
