It’s no surprise that with the Italian-built Rio Daytona 50, style is important. That’s why the three 450-hp Mercury Racing outboards are hidden aft; Rio didn’t want the outboards to interrupt the graceful lines of the hull. But not to worry. Push a button and the engine compartment lifts up so you can access them any time you want. The new 50 is at the top of Rio’s Daytona lineup; there’s also a 34 and a 46. Rio itself was started in Lombardy in 1961, making mahogany motorboats. It launched the Daytona line with the 34 at the Genoa show…

This was bound to happen. Artificial intelligence now is taking to the water, theoretically helping a new luxury yacht cruise more efficiently under electric power, while also keeping tabs (in not quite defined ways) on the crew to make sure they are embracing the new green technology to the full. All this is built into a new 164-foot Rossinavi hybrid named No Stress that was launched last spring and delivered to its owner last week. It’s the first in the Italian builder’s Blue line of hybrid yachts. No Stress has sleek, super-modern lines and an aluminum fast-displacement hull that has…

The historic Cantieri Aprea builders in Sorrento, Italy, will unveil their all-new Lancia Aprea at the Cannes Yachting Festival, starting Sept. 12. With its elegant, classic lines, the new 52-foot Lancia Aprea is bound to get a lot of attention there and in the U.S. later on with a special outboard version. The Lancia Aprea line is the latest generation of boats from the Cantieri Aprea builders who date to the 1890s. They started with fishing boats and gained fame in the 1950s by building boats for movie stars who wanted to cruise between Sorrento and Capri. The company says…

The eye-catching Tyde Icon, with looks like nothing else on the water, will make first show appearance at the Cannes Yachting Festival starting on Sept. 12. The all-electric Icon is a foiling luxury vessel, using leading-edge technology to provide a smooth, and quiet, ride for a group of passengers. The 43-foot boat is powered by two 100 kW electric motors giving it a top speed of 33 knots and a range of more than 50 nm at its cruising speed of 24 knots. It comes with a battery capacity of 240 kWh. The Icon has a beam of 14’ 7”…

Pearl will demonstrate Volvo’s new Assisted Docking system at the Southampton boat show starting Sept. 15. on its award-winning 62, the British builder’s best-selling model. Volvo’s Assisted Docking is a stem-to-stern system designed to take the stress out of docking a boat, even one as large as the Pearl 62. It represents the next generation of marine automation (although it does not replace a captain at the helm) and makes docking even in tight spaces safe and easy, compensating for the dynamics of wind and current. You control the boat’s direction and speed, while the system automatically adjusts for everything…

The new Rangeboat 46, designed for liveaboards or cruisers who want to go faster than displacement speeds and burn less fuel then most trawlers, just arrived in Newport, Rhode Island. The company will have a booth at the Newport show, starting Sept. 14, but the boat will be in the harbor for showing. Powered by a single 260-hp Yanmar, the Rangeboat 46 is efficient; it gets 3.5 miles per gallon at 10 knots. If you want to outrun a storm, or just get somewhere a bit faster, it tops out at about 18 knots. The boat was designed by Nigel…

Prestige, the upscale French builder, will hold the global premiere of its new almost-50-foot F4 flybridge yacht at the Cannes Yachting Festival, starting Sept. 12. The new Prestige comes with some heavy-hitting names. Garroni Design of Genoa, which has worked on everything from cruise liners to superyachts, did the lines, while Michael Peters, the Sarasota-based naval architect who has worked on everything from Hinckleys to race boats, did the hull. Powered by twin 480-hp Volvo IPS650 pod drives, the new F4 is expected to cruise comfortably and efficiently in the 22-knot range, and top out at 27 knots. Prestige says…

Argos Nautic just launched their new, six-passenger, outboard-powered GT14 RIB with the company’s distinct profile. The latest Argos Nautic is 13’ 10’ long and 6’ 10” wide. It was designed by Patrizio Facheris, the North Miami Beach designer who usually works with superyachts. The result is that the new RIB has not only a lot of space for its size but it also has the high-quality feel of a luxury vessel, with lots of leg room and storage space. The GT14 is made for yachts from 70 to 100 feet, but it also can serve as a primary boat, a…

The new Azimut Verve 48, the latest in the Italian builder’s outboard-powered series, will make its global debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival starting Sept. 12. Power for the new 48 comes from three 600-hp Mercury V12 outboards, producing a top speed of 50 knots. Azimut says those engines are 15 per cent more efficient, and 10 decibels quieter, than the four 450-hp Mercury Racing outboards that powered the Verve 47 that was introduced three years ago. Azimut says the 48 has a completely new stern area, with a larger section of the bulwark opening out to merge with a…

Virtue Boats just unveiled its new high-tech 32’ 8” V10 at the Palma, Mallorca, boat show, and the Axopar- and Saxdor-lookalike got a lot of attention. The Virtue V10 is made in Poland, and it’s billed as a high-quality, high-tech, high-performing day or weekend cruiser in the growing adventure boating segment. It’s built with vinylester resins and the vacuum-infusion system, and its hull has angled and aggressive spray rails that force water down and aft for a soft, cushioned ride. The company says the V10 is “the smoothest and most sustainable adventure boat on the market.” Standard power comes from…
