(CNN) Scientists have found thriving communities of coastal creatures, including tiny crabs and anemones, living thousands of miles from their original home on plastic debris in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch – a 620,000 square mile swirl of trash in the ocean between California and Hawaii. In a new study published in the Nature Ecology & Evolution journal on Monday, a team of researchers revealed that dozens of species of coastal invertebrate organisms have been able to survive and reproduce on plastic garbage that’s been floating in the ocean for years. The scientists said that the findings suggest plastic pollution…

The Italian-made Fiart 43 Seawalker was something of an eye-catching standout at the recent Palm Beach show, with its plumb stem, low lines and post-modern European design. Since then, it’s designed 150 different models and built thousands of boats that were sold across the continent. Fiart now has offices in Spain, France, Croatia, Turkey and Israel. It’s still too early to be precise, but this year’s Atlantic hurricane season will be slightly below average, according to the forecasting team at Colorado State University. The CSU forecast calls for 13 named storms, six hurricanes and two major hurricanes this season, which starts on June 1 and ends on Nov. 30. The long-term averages for the period from 1991 to 2020 were 14.4 named storms, 7.2 hurricanes, and 3.2 major hurricanes. On the other hand, the CSU team, in its first forecast for the season, did not have particularly good news for the U.S. It says the odds…

Its latest is a 90-foot luxurious solar/electric catamaran superyacht that gets additional clean power from hydrogen and wing sails. The Greenline 33 also garnered more than 30 awards along the way, including one for International Boat of the Year. The Greenline 33 was innovative in more than its use of clean solar/electric/diesel technology. The…

Here’s one more reason, as if you needed it, to stay out of the way of big cargo ships. The Coast Guard just issued a safety bulletin warning mariners about a growing number of huge bulk carriers arriving in the United States carrying wind turbine parts that are so large they limit visibility from the ship’s bridge. This brings to mind the already daunting vision of huge cargo ships navigating both Atlantic and Pacific ports filled with recreational boats, from Seattle and San Francisco to Fort Lauderdale and New York. Cruising up or down Delaware Bay has always been a…
