Green Turtle Marina, Resort Reopen in the Abacos

Here’s some good news from the Abacos. The popular but definitely laid-back Green Turtle Club Resort and Marina is up and running. It opened on March 1 with its full-service marina, restaurant, bar, eight rooms and two two-bedroom villas. Other villas are scheduled to be ready before summer. Green Turtle, on Green Turtle Cay, is a treat. I stayed there a few years ago when Billy Black, the photographer, and I were delivering a new Maine Cat P-47 to Hope Town, and I can’t wait to go back. Hurricane Dorian devastated the place last September, when it swept over the…

Abacos Update: Some Reopenings with More To Come

Absolutely devastated by the historic winds of Hurricane Dorian on Sept. 1, a few spots in the Great Abaco area of the Bahamas are starting to come back. Now the Leonard M. Thompson International Airport in Marsh Harbour is up and running, with Bahamas Air, Western Air and private flights. And the Abaco Inn, a 16-room villa resort just eight miles away in Hope…

Great Abacos Charter Story and Pictures from One Epic Adventure

Here’s a great story by the people at One Epic Adventure about chartering in the Abacos, one of the best cruising grounds around. To my mind, you won’t go wrong chartering anywhere in the Bahamas, but the Abacos are particularly appealing. The passages are short, navigation is usually line-of-sight, and there are lots of picturesque little towns, gorgeous white beaches, great snorkeling and crystal-clear, light blue-green water. You do need to watch your depth, as those beautiful waters are often shallow, and many of the cays in the Bahamas are protected by barrier reefs. In this story, the One Epic…

Not that you should need them, but if you’re looking for more reasons to charter a bareboat powerboat in the Abacos, here goes. And these are in addition to the reasons that I personally love cruising there  – some of the most beautiful water in the world, great white beaches, terrific marinas and resorts, and the chance to get away from it all. And they’re nearby. http://www.moorings.com/blog/five-experiences-you-can-only-have-bahamas
