Volvo, Beneteau Developing Hybrid Electric Systems

Volvo Penta and Groupe Beneteau just announced that they’ve formed a partnership to involve customers and dealers in developing their new hybrid-electric power systems for recreational boating. The two companies say they want immediate feedback so they can develop new technology that provides a quiet and sustainable power for boating in the future. Volvo already has run a successful commercial hybrid-electric system on a tour boat for Hurtigruten Svalbard in the past year. Now it’s turning to the recreational market. Delphia Launches New 32-Foot Electric Cruiser

Delphia, the Polish builder that’s now part of the Beneteau Group, just launched its new electric-powered, 40-knot, Delphia 10 cruiser. At 32 feet, the Delphia 10 is the smallest boat in Delphia’s fleet that includes a 35-foot Delphia 11 and a 42-foot Delphia 12. They are designed by Vripack, the leading Dutch firm that has worked on everything from Nordhavns to megayachts. Four Winns Launches New 36-foot Cat

Four Winns, now part of the massive Beneteau Group, just unveiled its totally new TH36 catamaran at the Cannes Yachting Festival. Based in Cadillac, Michigan, Four Winns says the TH36 is the first in a new line of power catamarans. The TH36 has two cabins, with two heads, below and can be powered by twin 300-hp or 350-hp outboards. The new cat is a truly international effort. Beneteau Installs Garmin Assisted Docking

Beneteau has become the first boat builder to incorporate Garmin’s Surround View assisted docking technology on a production boat, its upscale Gran Turismo 45 cruiser. Surround View will be available on all of those models now, and will probably roll out to other Beneteau models as well. The Garmin system has six cameras on the Gran Turismo so the captain can have a view of all angles of the boat, as well as an overhead bird’s-eye view, all appearing on the boat’s MFD at the helm. Delphia 11: Beneteau’s First All-Electric Boat

The Beneteau Group just launched its first all-electric boat, the 35-foot Delphia 11, designed to cruise lakes and rivers in peace and quiet, leaving no emissions behind. Beneteau bought Delphia, a Polish builder, in 2018. It is now the first company in the sweeping Beneteau fleet to build totally electric boats. Prestige Building New Line of Power Cats

Prestige, the high-end French builder, just announced that they’re launching a new line of power catamarans, starting with the M48. Prestige has been making yachts from 40 to 70 feet since 1989, but they’ve all been monohull motoryachts. The new M-Line, starting with the 48, will change all that. Part of the Beneteau Group, Prestige will have the new cat ready for the Cannes Yachting Festival next September. The winners of the European Power Boat of the Year awards were just announced, chosen by the editors of eight leading boating magazines across the continent. The awards this year were in five categories, organized by size, plus one innovation award and one special mention. The annual awards are usually given at a banquet at the big Düsseldorf show, but that was cancelled this year because of the pandemic. The awards were announced digitally from Hamburg.
