Cruiser Sinks in Delaware Bay

A 47-foot powerboat named Floating Dock hit a submerged object and sank last weekend in Delaware Bay. The Coast Guard rescued the two people on board. The Coast Guard says it received a distress call from the boat, reporting that it had hit something underwater and had a hole in the bow. The 48th annual White Marlin Open, the world’s largest billfish tournament, started on Monday morning in Ocean City, Maryland, with 421 boats competing for a record $9 million in prize money. At 10:30, Knot Stressin’, a 34-foot Pursuit and one of the competitors, sent out a Mayday call saying its engine room was flooding and all six men on board were abandoning ship. Coast Guard Rescues Two from Sinking Boat Off Bradenton, Florida

The Coast Guard rescued two people after their boat took on water and started to sink about two miles west of Anna Maria Island, off Bradenton, Florida. The boat, a 35-foot sportfisherman named the Last Lap, sank after the rescue. The owner is working with a commercial salvage service for salvage operations. The Coast Guard said its watchstanders in St. Petersburg got an emergency call from the boat saying it was taking on water. The Coast Guard rescued a family of six and their dog after their 72-foot trawler capsized and sank at 3 a.m. about five miles off Key West earlier this week. A 55-foot custom Paul Mann cold-molded-wood sport fishing boat sank off Charleston, S.C., on Saturday during the MegaDock fishing tournament, but all ten people on board were rescued by a passing boat before the Coast Guard arrived.
