Longreach Unveils 40 Cat with Diesel Outboards

Longreach Catamarans, a relatively new builder near Sydney, Australia, just unveiled its new Longreach 40 that comes with 300-hp Cox diesel outboards and hydrofoils. Longreach already has a 44 and a 58, both designed to offer stability, fuel-efficiency and long range. The new 40 has the same DNA, but with the options of the diesel outboards and hydrofoils for added performance. It is also offering the 40 with more traditional twin 250-hp Yanmar inboard diesels. Foiling Candela C-8 To Make Venice Debut

The revolutionary all-electric Candela C-8 hydrofoil boat has already been tested in its home waters in Sweden, but it will make its public debut May 27 at the Venice boat show. It also will enter the show’s grand finale E Regatta, an endurance test for the electric boats there. Candela Reaches iPhone Tipping Point

Candela, the innovative Swedish builder, says it’s at the iPhone-like tipping point for revolutionizing boating with its brand-new, all-electric C-8 foiling craft. After 16 months of development, Candela just tested the first C-8 at its headquarters in Stockholm and the company says it is now ready to start production. The C-8 foils at 16 knots, leaving no wake, noise or emissions behind. At 24 knots, the boat has a range of 50 nm. Top speed is 30 knots. Candela is expanding and moving to a new factory in May. New Foiler Hits 40 Knots 5 Feet Over the Water, Provides a Smooth Ride

Hydrofoils aren’t exactly new (think America’s Cup boats, high-speed ferries), but we haven’t seen one like this before. Take a look at the new 31-foot, 40-knot Foiler just introduced at the Dubai International Boat Show. It’s made by Enata Marine in Sharjah, UAE, and it’s said to deliver a super-smooth ride while soaring five feet above the water on its retractable carbon-fiber hydrofoils.
