Dutch-Made Long Island 33 To Debut in Newport

Long Island Yachts says its Dutch-made 33 Runabout that will make its U.S. debut at the Newport show, starting Sept. 15, is a modern version of traditional Downeast boat. And it has the classic lines of luxury runabouts made there, with a low profile, long sheerline, even a beautiful tumblehome. But the Long Island 33 Runabout isn’t made in Southwest Harbor, Maine, or even on Long Island. It’s built at the Long Island Yachts yard n Hofweg, a bit north of The Haag in The Netherlands. The Long Island 33 will be displayed at the Newport, Rhode Island, show by…

Back Cove just announced that it’s building a new 390 Down East cruiser with twin 425-hp Yamaha outboards. The boat is expected to have a top speed of 37 knots, and a cruising range of more than 300 nm at its cruising speed. The Maine company says that it will offer optional outboard power that will push the Back Cove 390 up to the 40-knot range. The announcement came on the opening day of the Newport International Boat Show, where Back Cove is displaying, among other boats, its popular Back Cove 340, its first outboard-powered boat. That boat was named…

7 Great New Power Cruising Boats at the Newport Show

About 340 boats will be on display at the Newport International Boat Show, which runs from Thursday, Sept. 12, through Sunday, Sept. 15. But only a handful will be new cruising powerboats that are being shown in the U.S. for the first time. Here’s a look at some of them: Bruckmann Abaco 47 (pictured above):  Built on the success of the popular Bruckmann Abaco 40, the new 47, designed by Mark Ellis, is a classic Down East cruiser with a long sheer, low profile, sharp entry and raked windshield. Built for extended cruising, the innovative hull is designed to plane…

Newport Show Starts Sept. 12 with 340 New Boats

The Newport International Boat Show, the first show of the season in the Northeast, opens on Thursday, Sept. 12, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 15. This show has always been one of my favorites, because almost all of the new boats are there, and then, well, it’s in Newport, one of the most historic and iconic boating destinations in the United States. The show this year, the 49th annual, will have 340 new sail and power boats from 15 to 90 feet, centered around the Newport Yachting Center in the middle of town, plus tents and land displays for engines, electronics…

Newport Show Opens with More Great Looking – and More Powerful – Boats than Ever Before By Peter A. Janssen The Newport show, the first of the fall boat show season, just opened, with more boats than ever before and, to my mind, more great-looking and great-performing boats than ever before. The brand-new Palm Beach 50GT, for example, just launched for the show, is boating eye-candy writ large, with a head-turning sapphire blue hull, low profile, drop-dead gorgeous tumblehome and curves everywhere. The fact that it tops out a 42 knots, driven by twin 600-hp Volvo IPS800s, is just icing…

Newport ’18: First Show of the Season Is Larger Than Ever. Plus, Our Reviews of 29 New Cruising Boats You Can See There

The Newport International Boat Show has always been my favorite. It’s the first of the fall show season, so almost all the new boats are there, and then, well, it’s in Newport. Enough said. This year the show, the 48thannual, runs from Thursday, Sept. 13, through Sunday, Sept. 16, with most of the docks and engine and accessories tents at the Newport Yachting Center, but also spilling over to neighboring docks. There’s also a brokerage show at the Newport Shipyard with about 100 boats from 60 to 185 feet, and a wooden boat show at Bowen’s Wharf. You can take…
