Tom Brady Trades Up to $6 million Wajer 77

Most of us think about trading up after we’ve had our boats for a few years. Not Tom Brady. But then Brady, who’s arguably the Greatest of All Time NFL quarterback, is probably working on a different timetable than the rest of us. Indeed, two weeks after he moved from New England to Tampa last year to play for the Bucs (after winning six Super Bowls with the Patriots), Brady ordered a $2 million Wajer 55 yacht and kept it behind his house on Tampa Bay. Brady then cruised it in Tampa’s water parade after the Bucs won the Super…

Maritimo Planning New M600 Offshore Cruiser

Maritimo is working on a new M600 luxury cruiser, the first in its Offshore Series, designed for long-range cruising with a combination of performance, efficiency and blue-water seakeeping ability. The new 60-foot yacht will have a complete package to operate as both a state-of-art offshore fishing platform and a large, comfortable and safe offshore cruiser. It is being developed based on Maritimo’s years of experience in building solid and seaworthy boats in Australia. Tom Barry-Cotter, Maritimo’s lead designer, said “The M600 is centered upon a hull design that is an advanced evolution of Maritimo’s longstanding experience in long-range cruising design…

New Regency 65: Designed for Extended Cruising

The new Regency 65 is designed for comfortable, long-range cruising anywhere from Alaska to the Caribbean, plus anywhere else you might have in mind. It’s a relatively heavy yacht (88,105 pounds) and its 18-foot-plus beam gives it a large footprint, so there’s lots of room. But that also means it will give you a good ride in a seaway where stability is always a blessing. The Regency 65 is powered by twin 900-hp Volvos, giving it a cruising speed of 15 to 17 knots. Dial back to 8 to 9 knots and the yacht has a range of more than…

Volvo Unveils New Assisted Docking System

Volvo Penta just introduced its new Assisted Docking system for IPS boats, and it’s designed to overcome the effects of wind and current while docking. Assisted Docking isn’t guaranteed to eliminate all the fear and stress from docking in adverse conditions, but it certainly comes pretty close. Volvo announced the new system at its virtual booth in the Consumer Electronics Show. It first unveiled the self-docking prototype two years ago. Assisted Docking uses software from Volvo’s GPS-based Dynamic Positioning System to work with the IPS fingertip-controlled joystick. The new package includes a “human-machine interface” (or HMI, as Volvo calls it)…

Beneteau Planning New Gran Turismo 41 Express Cruiser

Beneteau is working on a new Gran Turismo 41 express cruiser, an upgrade of the Gran Turismo 40 that it introduced in 2016. It has two cabins and one head below; there also is a lower lounge and a full galley there. But the 41 also will have an upper, outdoor galley on the port side of the cockpit, with a sink, fridge, electric grill and…

Volvo To Stop Making Seven Marine Outboards

For the past several years, the outboard business has been on a tear. The demand for new outboards, even on traditional cruising boats, often outpaced supply. Yamaha couldn’t make its popular large outboards fast enough. Mercury upped its game and produced new outboards that became the power of choice even on such Down East boats at Hinckley and MJM. Suzuki stepped up its presence in the U.S. Three years ago, Volvo Penta, the Swedish giant, bought Seven Marine, a U.S. startup, and it started production of the entire Seven Marine lineup (527-hp, 577-hp, and 627-hp models)  last February in Tennessee.…

Beneteau Swift Trawler 41: A 24-knot Family Cruiser

Beneteau’s new Swift Trawler 41 is the Goldilocks of coastal cruisers: It’s large enough to hold a crowd, but it’s small enough to be handled easily by a couple. The Swift Trawler 41 does indeed have a lot of living and entertaining space, inside and out, but it’s also a seaworthy cruising boat, giving a stable and comfortable ride throughout the speed range. And it’s easy to handle around a dock, with bow and stern thrusters. Experienced cruisers also will appreciate the side door next to the helm that gives immediate access to the starboard side deck, for help with…
