Nord Star, a family-owned builder of express cruisers and offshore yachts from 28 to 49 feet, has been building boats in Finland since the 1920s. To date they have launched over 4,000 fiberglass hulls and have a well-earned reputation for offering a wide range of options and customizations.
The Nord Star 49 is the company’s flagship and demonstrates the builder’s commitment to an elegant combination of comfort, pilot house styling and performance.
In the comfort department, the 49 is a three-cabin, two-head family cruiser with berths for up to seven. All three berths use the boat’s full beam. The salon has huge windows including the forward raked windscreens and is remarkably spacious.Note the doors next to the helm to the side decks. The galley is aft so it is near the cockpit while the dinette for six is forward next to the twin helm seats.

In the style category, the 49 has Nord Star’s classic workboat aesthetic but is finished with a high degree of yacht finish. The boat can have twin bench seats in the cockpit or a more conventional open layout.
Ther standard boat is a coupe with a large flat roof. But for a nominal charge, the builder will add a handsome and streamlined flybridge with a large dinette, outside galley and a lounge area. This is a popular option with many owners.
It’s the performance element of the design that turns heads. The standard boat comes with twin Volvo IPS 650s which deliver a top end speed of 38 knots. But, also offered are triple Volvo stern drives that push the needle up to 48 knots.
On top of the raw speed and extensive cruising range, the 49, like her smaller sisters, provides a very soft and stable ride.
Long a leader in pilot house performance cruisers in Europe, the brand is represented in North America by Nord Star USA in Connecticut.
