Greenline 58 Fly: New Hybrid Power

The new Greenline 58 Fly hybrid will make its debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. The 58 represents the start of a new partnership involving Greenline, Marco Casali of Too Design, and MICAD engineering. Casali drew a fresh exterior with clean lines for the new 58, and MICAD worked with Greenline on a new hybrid power system with a pair of 25kW electric motors and an adaptable hydraulic clutch that can be connected inline to any shaft-drive engine. Power options start with twin Cummins diesels from 610- to 715-hp, available on their own or with the hybrid drive.…

Greenline To Focus on Larger Yachts

Greenline, the trend-setting Slovenian builder, just announced that it will focus on building larger yachts and will discontinue its popular 33 in the summer of 2024. Back in 2008, Greenline staked out its position as the world’s leader in building hybrid production boats with its now iconic 33. It  has delivered about 500 of them since then to owners in 50 countries around the world. The Greenline 33 also garnered more than 30 awards along the way, including one for International Boat of the Year. The Greenline 33 was innovative in more than its use of clean solar/electric/diesel technology. The…

Greenline 48 Fly: Hybrid Family Cruiser

The Greenline 48 Fly, equipped with solar panels, electric motors, lithium batteries and two traditional Volvo 220-hp diesels, is a hybrid family cruiser that lets owners choose how they want to spend their time afloat. Under diesel power, the Greenline 48 tops out at 17.4 knots, a comfortable cruising speed for when you want to put some easy miles under your belt. At 15 knots, it has a range of 279 nm. (The Slovenian company says that at 5.1 knots, the range climbs to a staggering 1,668 nm, but I don’t know many people who want to cruise at 5.1…

New Greenline 40 Hybrid: A Cruiser’s Boat

The new Greenline 40 Hybrid is a cruiser’s boat. It’s user-friendly, easily handled by two people, but not too big to be overwhelming. And it has a state-of-the-art hybrid power system, delivering 22-knot speeds under twin Volvo diesel power, while also providing silent running at 11 knots under solar-electric power. The two staterooms and one head make it large enough to hold a family, or another couple, on an extended cruise, and its bridge clearance of just 12’ 2 inches are meant to slide under those structures on the Great Loop or the Intracoastal Waterway in the Southeast. Greenline started…

Greenline Planning New 58 Fly Hybrid

Greenline just had the debut of its new 68 hybrid, the flagship of its Slovenian fleet, at the Fort Lauderdale show, and it announced that it’s working on a new 58 Fly, which will be its next largest yacht, for a launch next fall. Greenline says that the 68, which can operate for as long as two days on battery power alone, is the largest production hybrid in the world. The planned 58 Fly will have all the same eco-friendly advantages as the 68, including the ability to run under diesel or solar/electric power, but in a slightly smaller package,…

Bavaria Launches New Vida 33, Its First Outboard

Bavaria, the large German builder of power and sailing yachts, just launched its first Vida 33, an outboard-powered weekender with sport styling and performance. If it brings to mind the looks of the Greenline NEO 33, it should. Bavaria acquired the rights to the NEO recently, after Greenline, the Slovenian builder, decided that outboard power didn’t fit in with its eco-friendly positioning. The NEO had solar panels to provide on-board power. For its part, Bavaria did not have an outboard boat in its powerboat lineup, which ranges from 29 to 55 feet. The new Vida 33 comes with standard twin…

Greenline Building New 45 Coupe Hybrid Cruiser

Greenline is building a new 45 Coupe hybrid that it plans to introduce at the Düsseldorf show in January. It’s a sport version of the 45 Fly that made its U.S. debut at the Miami show last February. Powered by twin 440-hp Volvo IPS600 pod drives, the 45 Couple will top out at about 30 knots. Under  all- electric power, it can cruise at 6.5 knots, leaving no fumes, noise, vibration, or carbon footprint behind. An array of solar panels on the hardtop can produce at least 15kWh of energy on a sunny day, enough to meet the daily needs…

Trends 2020: Solar, Electric, and Hybrid Cruising Boats

To some degree, the future of cruising is tied to the future of alternative energy – of electric, solar, and even hydrogen power or, more likely, some hybrid combination of all three. The movement toward alternative fuel is one result of the worldwide green movement, of the desire to move away from fossil fuel, to address climate change, to adopt new and renewable energy sources. And the advantages of electric- and solar-powered boats are obvious to anyone who’s cruised on them: They have no noise, no smoke, no pollution, no (or very little) vibration, and they leave behind no carbon…
