Suzuki Cruise Promotes New Eco-Friendly Fuel

A 26-foot Sea Pro center console just cruised 941 miles from Florida to Washington, D.C., powered by two Suzuki outboards using new eco-friendly fuel. The boat took ten days to travel from Jacksonville to the Capitol. Its Suzuki DF140 outboards burned 479 gallons of new EcoGen90 fuel, developed by VP Racing, along the way, for an average of just under 2 mpg in the deep-V boat. The boat’s arrival on Washington earlier this week was timed to coincide with the start of the annual American Boating Congress, organized by the National Marine Manufacturers Association. It then was used for demo…

Sergio Davi Finishes 9,201-nm Voyage in LA

In a major triumph for one man’s will and determination, Sergio Davi, a 65-year-old Italian adventurer, just arrived in Los Angeles, completing his 9,201-nm voyage from Sicily on his 37-foot RIB. Davi was greeted at the dock by officials from Suzuki, the Italian consulate in LA, and some fishermen from Terrasihi, a small fishing village near Palermo, where Davi started his trip on Dec. 15. The route took Davi along three continents (Europe, Africa and the Americas), and included a 6-day, 8-hour, 1,770-nm crossing of the Atlantic from Cape Verde off Africa to French Guyana in South America. The boat,…

Sergio Davi Crosses Atlantic on 36-Foot RIB

Sergio Davi, the Italian adventurer, just crossed the Atlantic on his 36-foot RIB. Davi left Mindelo on Cape Verde on Feb. 4, and stepped off his boat this afternoon in Kourou, French Guyana, in South America, 1,770 nm and six days and eight hours later. This was the longest, and most dangerous, leg of his 10,000 mile journey from Salerno to Los Angeles on his RIB named Aretusa Explorer. Joining him was Teo Aiello, the co-owner of Nouva Jolly Marine, which made the RIB. Aiello’s brother, Antonio, was on board for the previous leg, 836 miles from Grand Canary to…

New Antares 11 Flagship with Twin Suzukis and a Balcony

Beneteau just introduced its new Antares 11, the 36-foot flagship of its outboard lineup and the first with a balcony – part of the bulwark in the cockpit that folds out to create a larger social space there. The new Antares, a family weekend cruiser, is powered by twin 300-hp Suzukis, and speeds are expected to be over 30 knots. The Antares 11 is unusually open and filled with light, from large windows all around the salon and from a super-sized sunroof (which could be replaced with optional solar panels). Glass doors slide open aft to merge the salon and…

We Test the New, Prize-Winning Back Cove 34O: A Fast, Fun and Game-Changing Couple’s Cruiser By Peter A. Janssen I nailed it. As I jammed the throttles all the way forward, I realized this isn’t your father’s Back Cove. Actually, it isn’t like any other Back Cove ever, and I’ve driven every new model since Back Cove introduced its first one, a 29, in 2003. Back then, Sabre Yachts created Back Cove as a single-diesel, low-maintenance, user-friendly Down East cruising boat. But now, on this brand-new Back Cove 34O, all that was ancient history. Powered by twin 300-hp Yamaha outboards,…
