The Catana Group in France that’s been making sailing catamarans for the past 40 years just announced that they’re starting a new power cat brand, called YOT. They will introduce their first boat, the YOT 36, at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

A family company, Catana makes Catana and Bali sailing cats in five different yards, three in France and one each in Portugal and Tunisia, with more than 1,300 employees. But recently, the power cat market beckoned.

As Boris Compagnon, the group’s sales and marketing director, said, “Knowing that eight out of ten boats in the world today are motorboats, why not attack this market?”

The YOT 36 will measure 35’ 8” LOA with a 12’ 7” beam.  Power will come from two 300-hp outboards. The company says it will use outboard power for future boats up to 50 feet, and then use inboard power for larger models.

The new cat will have a traditional open deck layout, with a sun-lounging area aft, a protected salon and galley area forward, and another relaxing space on the foredeck. It will have two cabins below, one in each hull.

Catana is working with JnJ Design in Slovenia for the YOT 36. JnJ has already done design work for the Aquila power range and for several models from Fjord, Saxdor, Greenline, and Targa.

Catana says the goal with the new YOT brand is to make a range of intelligent, high-end, comfortable and seaworthy power catamarans. They will be designed for first-time owners, as well as for those with more experience.
