Based on the performance and popularity of the Bruckmann Abaco 40, the Toronto-based builder is now planning a larger version, the Bruckmann Abaco 47, with more accommodations and space for long-range cruising and living aboard. The new 47, like the 40, is designed by Mark Ellis, and it still has the classic Downeast lines, straight-forward, traditional interior and fuel-efficient hull of the smaller boat.
The Abaco 47’s hull is designed to perform well throughout the speed range; the boat comes up on plane at 12 knots. It can be powered by a single or twin diesels. With a single 1136-hp CAT, it will cruise in the low- to mid-20-knot range, and top out at 30 knots. With twin 641-hp CATs, it will cruise in the mid- to high-20-knot range, and top out at 34 knots. Either way, the centerline skeg provides stability, tracking and protection against grounding.
Below, the master stateroom is in the bow, with an island queen berth and an en suite head with separate shower. A guest cabin is to starboard with either a double or two single berths, and en suite access to the head. The galley is to port, and is open to the bridgedeck to allow for lots of light. It has a separate fridge and freezer, an induction cooktop and a convection microwave.
The large bridgedeck has visibility all around. An L-shaped settee that converts to a berth is to port with a dining table; a smaller settee is to starboard. The captain and mate both have Stidd seating. Aft, a large sliding door opens to the cockpit.
A long-time builder of high-end sailboats, Bruckmann can customize the Abaco 47 as the owner desires. For more:
