Wondering where to find a great beach bar in the Caribbean? Ponder no more. Here’s a list of eight of the best from The Moorings, the worldwide charter outfit, based on years of experience. They know about these things.
If you’ve cruised or chartered in the Caribbean you probably have your own list. If so, compare it with this one; there are probably some new ones here (if not, you’ve already led a full life, so sit back and count your blessings). The Moorings has organized this alphabetically, by location, starting with the Abacos, and Nipper’s, pictured above, which is one of the most popular spots in that island chain, and ending with St. Martin and the thatched-roof Sunset Beach Bar on Maho Beach near the airport.
And then there’s the ever-popular, appropriately named Soggy Dollar Bar on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands, now open again after being hit hard by last fall’s hurricanes. Home of the painkiller (an iconic concoction of Pusser’s, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, orange juice and nutmeg), the Soggy Dollar is on almost everyone’s must-visit list. (Or must visit again, in most cases.) Just drop the hook out in front, take the dink in and enjoy; it’s one of the better ways to leave all your worries behind.
