New Aquila 36: A User-Friendly, Multi-Purpose Power Cat

The Aquila 36 power catamaran, with two cabins with en suite heads and showers, is a user-friendly, fast, multi-purpose boat that provides a stable platform in a seaway or an anchorage. With optional twin 350-hp Mercury Verado outboards, the Aquila 36 tops out at 42 mph.

Aquilas are built by the Sino Eagle Group in China for MarineMax. They are sold to private buyers and are also put into the MarineMax Vacations fleet. You can try one out in a charter in the BVI, or enjoy all the advantages of a virtually carefree cruiser on your own. Indeed, the Aquila 36 comes about as close to a use-it, wash-it-down-and-put-it-away boat as is possible.

With the Aquila 36, you can enjoy cruising, fishing, diving, or entertaining a lot of your friends; with its 14’ 7” beam, there’s room for 20 adults at the dock. Underway, it sleeps six, including two in the salon. The outboards make engine maintenance easy, and there’s no teak or other exterior wood to worry about.

The main deck is all on the same level, and there’s one stateroom and head in each hull below. The almost-queen-sized berths are in the bow, with a window on the side and an opening hatch overhead for light and ventilation. Each head also has a side window and opening hatch. The heads are placed amidships, providing a privacy barrier between the sleeping areas and the salon. The staterooms have 6’ 6” standing headroom.

The helm station to starboard seats two, and the passenger seats to port also hold two more. The galley is to starboard with a Corian counter, sink and fridge/freezer. There’s a settee to port with a folding table. Seating aft converts to a sunbed facing fore or aft. For easy access, there are side boarding doors port and starboard, plus a gate to the large swim platform between the two engines. The foredeck is another social area with seats for eight; they can be converted into two large sunbeds.

The Aquila 36 comes with three power options, all from Mercury Verado: twin 250-hp outboards, with a top speed of 31 mph; twin 300-hp outboards, for 38 mph; and twin 350-hp outboards, for 42 mph.

Specs.: LOA: 36’0”; Beam: 14’7”; Draft (outboards up): 2’0”; Disp.: 19,400 lbs.; Fuel: 356 gals.; Water: 52 gals.; Power: 2/Mercury Verados from 250- to 350-hp.
