Repower, a 100-year-old Swiss energy company, is showcasing its new 34-foot, all- electric boat, RepowerE, in northern Italy this summer, hoping that once people see it in action they will become believers themselves. The tour started in May in Liguria, near Genoa, and is moving to Lake Garda and Lake Varese, ending in Trieste in October.
The original RepowerE boat served as a tourist boat on Lake Garda. The new version has a cabin and can carry 12 passengers plus crew. It’s powered by two 20 kW electric motors supported by a 40 kWh battery pack. Running at 5 to 6 knots, the boat has a range of about ten hours, and a top speed of 11 knots.
Since it’s all electric, RepowerE has no emissions, no noise and no vibrations. And it’s certified to operate in wave heights of more than six feet.
Repower is trying to focus on the entire electric boat ecosystem, and not just the boat. It has introduced a cool-looking recharging station, called Palina, to manage the boat’s batteries. You also can repower it by connecting to a standard power network.
