If you want to arrive at your marina in style, or turn a lot of heads the next time you cruise down your local turnpike, take a look at the Boatcar, a marriage of a 24-foot Sea Ray Sundancer and a Ford passenger van.
The innovative Boatcar is now listed on eBay under the heading “1995 Other Make Boat Car,” and it’s for sale for $55,000. The seller says it’s street legal.
The Boatcar was created by Mark Ray of Mark’s Custom Cruisers in Georgia. They have built several vehicles out of boat hulls and airplane fuselages, but this is their largest boat-car combination yet. It took six months to complete.
The chassis is from a 1995 Ford E-350 van, with an inline, six-cylinder, 4.9 liter Ford truck engine. The van’s odometer reads 158,000 miles, so far all on land. The Sea Ray hull was grafted onto the van. The Boatcar doesn’t have any doors; you climb in via the swim ladder on the port side of the transom. It doesn’t have a top, either.
But it does have a teak deck/floor, vinyl upholstery, a Ford dashboard, power steering, and a radio that only plays surf rock. The hybrid vehicle also has airbags and seat belts for five, headlights, taillights, turn signals and an automatic transmission. The red paint is new; so are the tires and radiator.
If you don’t want to drive around with your family in your new Boatcar, the seller suggests it could be used to advertise a local marina or a seafood restaurant. Read more:
