In 1971, Boston Whaler launched its first Outrage, a 21’ 4” unsinkable vessel with a single outboard. Whaler sold hull number one to the Marine Biological Laboratory at Woods Hole, Massachusetts, which is still using it today.

Over the past 50 years, Whalers have become ubiquitous around the world. Who among us has not owned, driven, or wanted a Whaler?

Now, Whaler has launched a special 50th Anniversary Edition 420 Outrage, and it’s a bit different from the first. The new Outrage has grown to 42’ 6”, and it’s powered by three 600-hp V12 Mercury Verado outboards, giving it a top speed of 59.4 mph. (You also can get it with four 400-hp Verados.)

The Anniversary Edition Outrage package includes painted engines, teak accents, upgraded exterior upholstery in Sea Gray, plus upgraded Dusk-colored interior upholstery and a black hardtop frame.

Six people can sit at the helm, and a black Sunbrella sunshade deploys over the cockpit electronically at the push of a button. The cabin has a V-berth with 7 feet of standing headroom; the head has a VacuFlush electric toilet and an enclosed shower with a rain shower head.

The boat has 22 degrees of deadrise at the transom for offshore performance, and it comes with a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer for comfort.

At its 59.4 mph top speed, the Whaler burns 143.6 gph and has a range of 260 miles. At 9.9 mph, it burns 15.4 gph, and has a range of 406 miles.

You can see the Anniversary Edition as it tours the Northeast and prepares for the fall boat shows.
