At more than 252 feet, the explorer yacht La Datcha, pictured above recently in Antarctica, is a bit larger than the boats we usually cover. But I think it’s interesting in terms of seeing what’s possible in the charter and expedition yacht areas today.
La Datcha was built in the Damen yard in The Netherlands and launched in 2020 as the company’s SeaExplorer flagship, designed by Azure Yacht for cruising the world’s most remote destinations. The hull is steel and the superstructure is aluminum, and it’s built to be IMO Polar Code compliant. It also can run 40 days without having to put into port.
Power comes from two 5,438-hp MAN diesels, producing a top speed of 14.5 knots, and a range of 6,000 nm at 12 knots. The fuel tanks hold 46,230 gallons.
On board, there are six cabins for 12 guests, including two master cabins and one VIP suite, plus cabins for 19 crew. Everyone can keep comfortable in a Turkish Hammam steam bath, an ice-fountain shower, massage room, full-equipped gym, and a Jacuzzi on deck. An observation deck is 30 feet above sea level.
The yacht holds two commercially-certified helicopters, a three-person submarine, a fully-certified dive center, two tenders, two expedition-style RIBs, two snow scooters, four WaveRunners, and a water slide.
La Datcha is available for charter through Edmiston, with openings in the Indian Ocean and Russia. In case you have to ask, the summer rates start at 840,000 Euros, or about $935,185 U.S. dollars – a week.
