Azimut just launched its first Magellano 30 Metri, the flagship of its long-range cruising fleet, at its yard in Viareggio, Italy. The new 30 Metri (measuring 97’ 6”) carries on the Magellano identity of providing Azimut’s traditional comfort and elegance in a boat that’s designed to cruise far afield in all sorts of weather and sea conditions.
The first Magellano, launched in 2009, was a 74, with a completely new look and hull, designed by the Dutch naval architect Ken Freivokh. It had a range of more than 1,100 m at 11 knots, considerably more than possible on any of Azimut’s traditional motoryachts. Since then, Azimut has rolled out a new Magellano at regular intervals; the line now has a 43, 53, 66, 82 and the new 98.
The new 30 Metri also has an exterior by Ken Freivokh, with a top speed of 20 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots. It has Azimut’s Dual Mode hull – a semi-displacement hull shape with a round bilge, hard chines, center skeg and vertical bow. Azimut says the hull is more efficient than a traditional hard-chine planing hull, and the boat will cruise for long distance in any weather.
The new Magellano has five staterooms and six heads for ten guests, plus cabins for three crew, with an infinity terrace aft and a lavish lounge on the upper deck for al fresco entertaining. There’s a Jacuzzi on the foredeck.
The looks have come a long way from the fairly functional lines of the first Magellano, with sleek, modern lines and large glazed surfaces. Azimut says guests can have views of both the sky and the sea from anywhere on the main deck and flybridge.
Magellanos also are built to reduce a yacht’s environmental impact. The 30 Metri’s optional Hotel Mode, for example, comes with 100 kWh batteries so guests can stay at anchor without running the generator for four hours during the day and eight hours at night.
Azimuts are sold in the U.S. by MarineMax.
