Meet the All-Electric Cybercat With a Tesla

Maybe it’s the pandemic; maybe it’s too many glasses of wine, or maybe it’s just a very creative mind at work. In any event, here’s a look at the new Cybercat all-electric amphibious boat, using a not-yet-made Tesla Cybertruck.

The Cybercat, and its upgrade, the Cybercat Foiler, are the products of Anthony Diamond’s fertile mind. Diamond, a young entrepreneur from the Seattle area, has an engineering PhD from the University of California at Berkeley, and an engineering BS from Stanford. He was featured in Forbes list of 30 Under 30 in 2017.

Just as relevant, Diamond drives a Tesla and he’s on the waiting list for a Tesla Cybertruck, which Tesla founder Elon Musk announced in 2019. Delivery of the truck has been delayed several times, because of the pandemic, but Musk recently said that production will start next year.

For his part, Diamond isn’t wasting any time. He has a patent for the Cybercat, and says that you just need a few components that can fold or be collapsed into the truck of a Cybercat to convert the futuristic Tesla pickup truck into a floating catamaran. The all-electric cat will have a top speed of 22 knots; add a few more components, and the Cybercat Foiler hits 35 knots, with a range of 65 nm at 22 knots or 100 nm at 5 knots. Power comes from up to five 50kW electric outboards.

Diamond says one person can convert the Tesla pickup into a Cybercat mode in less time than it takes to launch a boat from a trailer. The boat will have a suite of interconnected sensors, power and data connections and pontoon pressure transducers that all work together. Built-in actuator jacks will connect with the pickup’s lift points. Read more:
