Here’s a different kind of charter for this summer. You don’t need to charter the yacht for a long time, just a day or so. Or even for a sunset cruise or special event, a birthday, say, or an anniversary.
Luxury Day Charters, based in Miami, has specialized in creating charters for seven days or less for more than 17 years; their motto is “be a yacht owner for a day or longer.” And they have yachts from South Florida and the Bahamas to Newport and Nantucket. They’ll customize a charter for you for anything from single-day events to yacht vacations.
For a typical charter, take a look at the 2021 Horizon 96 in Newport (see picture at top). It’s modern, bright and comfortable, with a cruising speed of 12 knots, top speed of 21 knots, and a range of 400 nm, not that you’ll be going that far. Indeed, there’s plenty to do in just a day’s outing, since the yacht has five cabins for 11 guests, all served by four crew. But to make sure you have enough to do, it comes with two jet skis, two SUPs, two kayaks, and even two fishing rods.
If you want to step back in time a bit, and charter a classic, the Kingfisher is a 1959 Huckins 50 based in Long Island’s Hamptons (pictured above). It has accommodations for two adults and two small children (or three adults), plus two crew, in a forward master cabin with a V berth and a guest cabin. The large flybridge is shaded by a Bimini. The salon comes with a settee and club chairs. The raised foredeck has a sun lounge, and the cockpit offers al fresco dining for six.
The Luxury Day Charters fleet also includes a Hargrave 97 in Fort Lauderdale, a Burger 85 and a Sea Ray 40 in Palm Beach, a Princess 85 in New York, a Vicem 74 in Greenwich, and a Galeon 68 and Warren 87 in the Hamptons, among many others.
The company will customize just about any kind of cruise you want, but they also offer their own special cruises:
A Craft Cocktail Cruise, with a selection of craft cocktails or wine and “light fare.”
A Scotch and Cigar Yachting Experience, so you can “step back in time and savor an exceptional scotch and cigar yachting experience.”
And a Champagne and Caviar Cruise, where you can “indulge in Champagne paired with distinctive Black River Caviar. But you need to give them 48 hours for this cruise so they can buy the caviar.
