Wally Building WHY150 Space Ship

Wally just announced that it’s making a new Wally WHY150 yacht, the second in its WHY series, designed for extra space and comfort on board.

The first WHY, the 200, at 88 feet, was launched in September. The latest 150, at 78 feet, is scheduled to be launched in February. The WHY stands for Wally Hybrid Yacht, but the hybrid part doesn’t refer to propulsion. Instead, it means a hybrid hull built for both displacement and semi-displacement cruising.

But what really sets the WHY series apart is the massive space inside the yacht. The new 150 has a high bow that makes room for the huge master stateroom on the main deck all the way forward, offering a 270-degree view from wraparound windows. And the salon has extra headroom in its curved ceiling, reaching up to 8’ 2”.

Luca Bassani, the Wally founder, says, “We have maximized and optimized her exterior spaces as much as possible. They are absolutely enormous and totally unique for her size in the industry.”

The aft deck and swim platform seem to merge into one open space, for example, leading forward into the salon, all at the same level.

The Wally WHY150 was designed by the Wally-Ferretti Group with the interior by A. Vallicelli & C. in Rome. The overall design, says Stefano de Vivo, Wally’s managing director, “sets new standards in yacht design.”

The new Wally holds eight guests in four cabins, plus four crew in two cabins with its own galley.

The upper deck has two seats at the helm station on the starboard side, a large dining table and outdoor galley a bit aft, then a U-shaped lounge and sun pads for lounging farther aft.

Standard power is three 900-hp Volvo IPS1200 pod drives, delivering a top speed of 21 knots and a range of 390 nm at 18 knots. Optional triple 1,000-hp Volvo IPS1350 pod drives produce a top speed of 23 knots and a range of 370 nm at 20 knots.
