Mercury Marine just introduced a new series of three-cylinder, four-stroke 25- and 30-hp outboards that are lighter, faster and more user-friendly than ever before.
The new outboards all have a 500cc powerhead with electronic fuel injection. And for the first time, electric-start models in both the 25- and 30-hp size come standard with Mercury’s SmartCraft digital technologies, so owners can connect to sophisticated digital gauges and mobile devices.
The outboards start at just 132 pounds, making them 16 percent lighter than previous models; they’re also more fuel efficient. They come in models designated as 25- and 30-hp Four Stroke; 25-hp Sea Pro, and 25-hp ProKicker.
Mercury says they’re ideal for small boats, inflatables and dinghies. The new 25-hp ProKicker is designed for better trolling control for boats in the 26- to 39-foot range that operate in rough water and high winds.
The new engines are available with electric or manual start, tiller or remote controls, manual or power trim, and even propeller or jet propulsion. The tiller models are equipped with an almost 23-inch ergonomically designed handle that is adjustable for right- or left-handed operation and is intuitive to use.
Chris Dees, the president of Mercury Marine, said the new outboards will provide a better boating experience to a wide variety of boat owners. “In addition to being lighter, faster and quieter, the new engines in this lineup deliver what boaters have asked for with exciting new options like digital technologies and an ergonomically-positioned tiller handle,” he said.
