Elling Yachts in The Netherlands has launched its new flagship, a 65-foot, luxurious long-range cruiser. Powered by a single 900-hp Volvo, the new E6 has a range of 2,500 at 9 knots, and 1,000 nm at 15 knots. That’s enough, the company says, to cruise from Amsterdam to Iceland on one tank of fuel.
Even if Iceland is not on your cruising plans, you can still go from New York to Miami, say, without bothering to stop at a fuel dock along the way. And, with Elling’s low-slung profile, you could even duck inside and go under some bridges on the ICW along the way.
The new Elling is also an unusually safe boat. The company says it’s self-righting, and it has videos of earlier Ellings, the 45-foot E3 and the 49-foot E4, to prove it. Elling says it makes its yachts like lifeboats, but like very luxurious lifeboats. The two helm chairs, for example, are fully adjustable, using gas-operated springs, and are made of leather.
The hull is reinforced with Kevlar for strength, but it also serves as a noise barrier. The engine room is well-insulated and the windows have double glazing and frames with a cold-bridge barrier to eliminate condensation. The noise level at the helm is a low 70 dB(a) at 20 knots, according to the company.
Bow and stern thrusters are standard, but so is a secondary engine, a 75-hp Volvo, that works from its own 52-gallon fuel tank. Elling says this get-home engine can move the 65 at 7 knots.
Ellings are made by Neptune Marine Shipbuilding, a premium Dutch builder. The interior of the 65 is super-yacht quality, and buyers can customize it, as well as the hull color, as they wish.
The salon has 360-degree visibility and an opening sun-roof aft. The salon is on the same level as the aft deck, with the usual seating and table aft. The garage below is large enough to hold a standard 10’ 6” Williams 325 Jet Tender.
Below, the galley is home-like (a very nice home, of course) with a large Miele fridge, freezer, dishwasher, marble counter tops and lots of storage. It is part of a lower lounge/salon area (see the picture above).
The master stateroom is amidships, with a centered double bed and a large head. The VIP cabin is forward, and the third cabin is a bit aft of the galley/salon area. The VIP and guest cabin have their own heads.
Elling is scheduled to have a display at the Newport (Rhode Island) show starting Sept. 15.
