My Saga, a 129-foot superyacht cruising from Gallipoli, Turkey, to Messina, Sicily, sank over the weekend about nine nm off the southern coast of Italy. All nine people on board, passengers and crew, were rescued.

The captain of the luxury yacht, with accommodations for 12 guests in six staterooms, plus eight crew, called the Port of Crotone on the Ionian Sea on Friday night, saying it was taking on water. Two patrol boats rushed to the scene, and rescued some passengers.

At dawn, a tug started towing My Saga to safety in Crotone, but the weather worsened. The yacht was already partly submerged and listing heavily to starboard. It then took on more water and sank.

Nearby boats had already taken everyone off the yacht safely. The Italian authorities are investigating.

My Saga was built by Monaco Yachting & Technologies in Italy and launched in 2007. It originally was named Yuko. It had a teak deck, steel hull and aluminum superstructure, and it was powered by twin CAT diesels. Top speed was 12.5 knots, and it had a range of 4,000 nm at a slower cruising speed.
