Joe Lazzara, of the iconic Lazzara yachting family, has designed a new 60-foot catamaran powered by four 600-hp Mercury Verado V12 outboards. It’s a Legacy LC-60, part of the Legacy Superyachts by the Lazzara Family group, and it’s an aluminum cat with an efficient planing hull with some innovations designed to make boating more user-friendly.
The Legacy cat has a steady and wide platform, with a lot of carbon fiber for strength and light weight. With the four outboards, top speed is set for 45 knots, with a cruising speed of 30 knots.
The new cat is marked by its ease of use and ease of access. Joe Lazzara designed it with inspiration from his brother, Rich Lazzara, who recently resigned from the boating business because of his health. Rich Lazzara was diagnosed with ALS last year.
“We wanted to create the ultimate family boat,” said Joe Lazzara, the president and CEO of Legacy Superyachts by the Lazzara Family. “The platform of the catamaran is ideal for some of the objectives we wanted to achieve.”
The cat has articulated stairs to make it easier to get on and off the yacht at a dock. It also has a glass-bottomed, salt-water pool to allow for zero-gravity relaxation.
Aft, the large beach club has three different configurations, offering lots of flexibility for entertaining and relaxing. You just rearrange the furniture to suit your mood and your desire for al fresco dining, lounging in the sun, or enjoying some water sports. There’s space for two WaveRunners or other water toys concealed below the aft deck.
On the main deck, the starboard settee seats eight, and there’s a full bar and 60-inch pop-up TV. Other settees face aft, with high-low tables. There’s Lazzara’s usual atrium-like galley, plus five guest cabins below, or four plus a crew cabin. A large sun pad on the bow provides another social and lounging area.
Joe Lazzara, a third-generation yacht builder, believes that the outboard power cat market will continue to grow. He’s now talking with builders to form possible partnerships.
The Lazzara family has been building boats for 67 years. Vince Lazzara was a pioneer in the fiberglass sailboat business, launching Columbia Yachts and Gulfstar. His sons, Brad and Dick, stayed in the business. Dick started Lazzara Yachts in Tampa in the early 1990s, featuring designs with Italian style and American engineering. Joe started working as a naval architect and designer of express-style yachts, building them in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
Lazzara Yachts were marked by a family quality. I always enjoyed visiting the factory, first to see the new yachts, but then to participate in the Italian-style lunch in the dining room there with members of the family. It was a true pleasure.
Legacy Superyachts are sold by Denison Yachting in the U.S.
