Hunt has launched its new Ocean 68 Flybridge yacht, the latest in the legendary builder’s line of classic, sea-kindly Down East cruisers. The Ocean 68 has a large extended flybridge, a custom interior, and the deep-V hull that provides a fast, safe and soft ride offshore in all kinds of conditions.
Hunt’s Ocean series already has a 56, 63, and 76; the new 68 is designed to fill the gap between the 63 and the 76. All the boats are designed to provide the best ride in their size range. The 68 gets up on plane easily, and provides a dry, comfortable ride whether its cruising at 30 knots or down at trawler speed.
Standard power comes from twin 1,136-hp CAT C-18 diesels, with a top speed of about 27 knots. Twin 1,600-hp CAT C-32s produce a 32-knot top speed, and twin 2,000-hp CAT C-32s go up to 37 knots. (Those speeds are for the express version of the 68.)
The new 68 will make captains happy, with joystick controls for fingertip steering and Humphree fins and stabilizers that provide stability underway or at a mooring. The yacht also comes with state-of-the-art electronics and systems, including C-Zone so you can control electrical functions from an iPad.
The boat has Hunt’s elegant fit and finish, and you can have three or four generous staterooms below, all with en suite heads and showers. Crew quarters are optional. And you can have the galley up or down, as well as a lower lounge where you can enjoy a morning coffee, or evening cocktail, in privacy.
Designed by C. Raymond Hunt Associates in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the Ocean 68 Flybridge has the updated version of the deep-V hull that Ray Hunt first designed more than half a century ago. Hunt’s deep-V is patented, and it is used on the majority of pilot boats now operating in North America, as well as on military boats.
Hunt’s Ocean Series yachts are made in Taiwan and commissioned at the company’s yard in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
