Marking its 50th anniversary, Mercury Racing just introduced its new 500-hp outboard designed for fast luxury sport boats.
The new 500R V8 has Mercury Racing’s exclusive supercharger, and it not only has 50 more horsepower but also 10 percent more torque than the company’s 450R. It has a 4.6 liter, 64-degree FourStroke powerhead and is designed for pump fuel with an 89 octane rating. The company says the 500R is “the most exciting production outboard to ever emerge from Mercury Racing.”
The 500R tops out at 6,600 rpm. To handle all that power, it has upgraded its powerhead, cooling system, midsection and steering column. Other upgrades include a robust 1-inch diameter driveshaft and a 1.5-inch diameter propshaft. The 5.9-inch torpedo is sleek and aerodynamic.
The new outboard comes in 20-, 25-, 30-, and 35-inch shaft lengths and two drive configurations. The first, R-Drive, is for boats topping out at 85 mph, and the second, R-Drive Sport, is for boats faster than that. You can order props up to 17 inches in diameter. The gear ratio is 1.60:1.
The outboard is equipped with Mercury’s digital throttle and shift and Digital Zero Effort controls. It has a three-year limited factory warranty with an optional extended factory warranty.
To match your boat, the 500Rs come ready-to-paint or in Phantom Black and Cold Fusion White colors. Read more at http://mercuryracing.com and see the video below:
