Sunreef Yachts just introduced its new sleek hybrid 88 Ultima luxury power catamaran that the innovative company says blends the best of monohull dynamics with multihull living space and shallow draft that lets it tie up at marinas around the world.
Ever since Francis Lapp founded Sunreef in Gdansk, Poland in 2007, the company has won lots of awards for its high-tech green innovations that combine solar/electric and hybrid power. The new 88 Ultima has custom-engineered batteries, hybrid propulsion and what Sunreef says is the industry’s first solar skin system. The new cat is 88 feet long with a 30-foot beam, and can accommodate ten guests in five staterooms plus crew.
The cat’s advanced hull design reduces drag for performance and energy efficiency; the hull is composite. The light-filled interiors use sustainable wood, recycled plastic and reclaimed fabrics. The living and lounging areas area all designed to reduce artificial lighting and air conditioning.
The foredeck is an inviting social space, with a large forward-facing lounge and tables, while aft the cockpit is almost the same size as the salon and grows much larger with the wings that fold out of the bulwarks on both sides.
The teak swim platform, which can be lowered into the water, is full beam and large enough to hold the yacht’s tender, while a garage opens to hold a variety of water toys. Sunreef calls that area a walkaround Ocean Lounge.
The cockpit has the usual large seating area and table aft, with L-shaped seating and a dining table on the port side; a bar and day head are to starboard. Glass doors lead to the salon, with sofas and seating areas all around. A dining table is to port.
Protected by a hardtop, the flybridge has a three-person helm seat on the starboard side, an L-shaped sofa with tables to port, and a dining table seating eight a bit aft.
Below, the full-beam master stateroom is forward with a walkaround bed on the starboard side and a dressing area and hotel-size head to port. Two more guest staterooms are in each hull, with crew quarters farther aft.
