Sweden’s Nimbus Group is expanding its presence in the U.S., now providing its Aquador line to the PowerTime boat club for fractional ownership.
Started in 1968, Nimbus now builds half a dozen different boat lines in Europe. Last March, Nimbus bought Edgewater Boats in Florida. Aquadors will be put in PowerTime locations in eight of the club’s ten states for fractional use.
PowerTime, founded in 2020, is part of SailTime, founded in 2002. Michael Bohm, the CMO of the Nimbus Group, said the new partnership with PowerTime “is mutually advantageous, as it allows PowerTime to exclusively feature a boat that complements their fleet perfectly, while simultaneously providing Aquador with a swift and extensive market entry across significant regions of the USA.”
A line of Scandinavian cruisers, the Aquador fleet now runs from 25 to 38 feet. The Aquador 25HT is pictured.
PowerTime calls itself “the world’s first fractional boat club.” Its fleets in Florida, South Carolina, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, Wisconsin, California, Oregon and Washington are heavy with boats in the 25-foot range, although they also include an Azimut 51, Beneteau Swift Trawler 41, and a Nimbus 365.
“PowerTime is just like a gym membership, but on the water,” the club says. “You join at a location near where you live, pay a monthly fee, use the equipment clean it up when you’re finished, and leave – without all the ownership responsibilities.”
Prices vary by location and the type of boat. Members become fractional owners of a specific boat. Each member is guaranteed a certain amount of days on the boat for a fixed fee that includes the cost of insurance, dockage and maintenance.
The club has three memberships: Lite, with a minimum of three bookings a month; Classic, with a minimum of seven bookings a month, plus more made within 36 hours of start time; and Premiere, with a minimum of 14 bookings a month (including a week at a time), plus more made with in 36 hours of start time.
A year ago, memberships in the Annapolis club started at $895 a month for a 30-foot Beneteau Flyer, and $995 a month for a 34-foot Jeanneau NC1095.
Aquadors will make their U.S. debut at the St. Petersburg boat show starting Jan. 18.
