You can’t say that the people at Azimut, the high-end Italian builder, don’t think big. Indeed, they just unveiled plans for their new 84-foot Seadeck 9 motoryacht with a massive ever-extending beach club aft that even includes a pool.
The new 9 will be the flagship of Azimut’s Seadeck lineup, which are all built around a “Fun Island” beach club theme. The first yacht in the series, a 57-footer, will be launched this spring, a 72 in the summer, and the 84 in 2025.
On the Seadeck 9, the Fun Island starts with fold-down bulwarks aft and then expands over a series of three cascading decks that covers 645 square feet (about the size of my first studio apartment in New York) and a Transformer-type swim platform. A spa/pool is in the middle, flanked by two sunbeds that can slide over to cover it.
Azimut says the Fun Island idea is based on similar beach clubs called Oasis Decks on some of the company’s recent Benetti superyachts that proved popular with owners and guests.
The Seadeck series will also be the first in Azimut’s family of hybrid motor yachts, incorporating diesel-electric power with Volvo IPS drives. Azimut says the hybrid power will reduce carbon emissions by as much as 40 percent, compared to a diesel-powered yacht of the same size. Azimut says the series will take the company closer to a sustainable future, and that the yachts will contain sustainable materials such as cork and flax.
“Not only does that mean state-of-the-art technologies as regards emissions, propulsion and energy consumption, but also a heightened sense of well-being for all aboard,” said Giovanna Vitelli, the chairwoman of Azimut-Benetti.
