The SACS Rebel 50, recently introduced to the U.S. at the Palm Beach show, just may be the most luxurious RIB in the world. It’s certainly one of the most good looking, and it comes with the fit and finish of a five-star motoryacht.
Actually, the Italian-built Rebel 50 isn’t a traditional RIB at all; it’s somewhat in its own category. Its RIB credentials come from foam-filed collars (instead of inflatable tubes) that are mounted around the bulwarks; they are D-shaped fenders that do the same job as inflatable tubes, but they don’t take up as much room, leaving more space for the Rebel’s deep walk-around decks.
The Rebel 50 is meant to be a cruising boat, with two cabins and one head below, and power from twin 725-hp Volvo Penta IPS950 pod drives. Top speed is 36 knots, and the boat has a range of 260 nm at its cruising speed of 28 knots.
The salon can be left open at the back, but it can be closed to create an all-weather wheelhouse. Either way, the drop-down windows and the louvered sun roof provide lots of light and fresh air. A pullout cooktop and sink are on the port side, with a small fridge; a teak dining table is opposite. There’s even a corner bar, with a coffee machine, and a 42-inch TV.
The bow has recliner seats and sun pads, while the cockpit has a sun bed and a forward-looking lounge on top of a garage with an electric door. A gyro stabilizer will keep everyone comfortable underway.
Below, the well-appointed master cabin is in the bow with light from oversized side windows. The second cabin is a bit aft with twin beds that can be converted into a double.
