Furuno has unveiled a new series of MFDs that feature AI-assisted routing to take you on the best, safest and most direct path to your destination. And if an obstacle appears along the way, Furuno’s AI Routing will create a new route around it in real time.
The new AI feature is part of Furuno’s new NavNet TZtouchXL series of multi-function devices designed for the helm of cruising powerboats. The AI routing uses Furuno’s new TZ maps to create routes along channels and to inlets and marina entrances using the draft of your boat, chart data and other safety parameters.
The new suite of MFDs include a Risk Visualizer with AI Avoidance Routing uses radar plotting and chart data to warn you about dangerous targets. The targets are sized to indicate any potential risk and color-coded for danger. Once a potentially dangerous target is identified, the software creates a new safe route in real time.
The new MFDs are available in 10-, 13-, 16-, 22-, and 24-inch displays. They all connect via NMEA 2000.
The new TZ maps are a combination of government hydrographic and private charts. They show land-based features as well as bathymetric data with contour lines down to a resolution of a remarkable three inches. Their AI capability will grow as the system learns more routes and more boaters use them.
The NavNet MFDs have extra-large, all-glass screens that are clear when viewed from all angles. The 10-inch MFD costs $2,995; 13-inch, $3,995; 16-inch, $5,895; 22-inch, $10,495, and the 24-inch, $11,995.
