Aquila Unveils New 50 Power Cat

Aquila just announced that it’s building a new 50 Power Yacht Catamaran that will make its public debut at the Fort Lauderdale show in October.

The 50 replaces the now-retired Aquila 48, which was the very first power cat that Aquila made in partnership with MarineMax 12 years ago to supply boats to MarineMax Vacations’ growing charter fleet. Aquilas are made in China by Sino Eagle and sold in the U.S. by MarineMax, the largest powerboat dealer in the world with more than 60 retail locations.

The new Aquila will measure 52’ 2” overall with a beam of 25’ 6”; almost half its length, providing a large amount of both interior and exterior space for cruising or chartering. In keeping with the Aquila brand, where the cats are designed with the “explorer” in mind, it will have a high freeboard.

It also will have Aquila’s wave-piercing bows, a submersible swim platform, and direct access from the bridge to the foredeck. The flybridge will have an optional retractable sun roof; a hardtop is designed for solar panels.

The standard design for the new 50 calls for three staterooms and three heads, although a four-cabin, four-head version is optional. Power comes from twin 480-hp Volvo diesels, with a cruising speed of 18-19 knots and a top speed of 22 knots. A hybrid engine package is optional.

The Aquila Power Catamaran lineup now has a 42, 44, the new 50, 54, and 70. The Aquila brand was originally designed by an international team that includes Lex Raas, a charter industry veteran, and J&J Design, a high-end firm that worked with Azimut, Beneteau and Bavaria, among others.

We don’t have any other details about the new 50. Stay tuned.
