Pershing, the luxury performance brand from the Ferretti Group, just launched its sporty new GTX80, with a unique blend of Italian-styled indoor and outdoor spaces, at its factory in Fano on the Adriatic.
The new 80 has two decks and a sportbidge, and can sleep eight guests in four cabins; there’s also a crew cabin with two berths. Standard power comes from three 1,000-hp Volvo IPS1350 pod drives, delivering a top speed of 34 knots and a cruising speed of 28 knots.
Without stanchions to clutter the design, the Pershing GTX80 has a clean, aggressive, modern look with an almost vertical bow and a slightly convex sheerline. The exterior is in classic Pershing gray.
The bulwarks forward have been lightened by a longitudinal slot; those in the stern have winches for docking and convert to lateral terraces that swing down to create more usable space. This is the first Pershing to make use of the terraces to promote direct contact with the water.
The yacht is full of bright spaces, with extensive glazing on the main deck. The exterior glazing extends below the walkways, creating light-filled interiors and water views even when guests are sitting on the sofas in the salon. A sunroof over the windshield can be opened for more light and fresh air.
The interiors feature integrated LED lights and lacquered ceiling panels with metallic silver paint. The master stateroom has a cloud-like effect, with sky-blue leather paneling.
The open galley and bar on the main deck are integrated into the salon and open out to the cockpit, which becomes a massive outdoor social area. The stern swim platform has different positions where it can extend out to join the lateral terraces to hold sun lounges and water toys or it can be lowered to launch the tender.
The large upper sundeck has an optional carbon-fiber hardtop.
On a personal note, a few years ago I had a ride on a new Pershing from Fort Lauderdale down to the Ocean Reef Club on Key Largo. The Pershing was one of the most comfortable yachts I’ve ever been on. It was solid, fast and maneuverable; it definitely delivered us to Ocean Reef in high style.
