Rustler Yachts, a British semi-custom, blue-water sailboat builder with a well-earned reputation for craftsmanship and seamanship, just launched its first powerboat, the elegant Rustler 41.
Adrian Jones, the director of Rustler Yachts, said, “We’ve been asked many times if we would build a motorboat by both existing Rustler customers, and those who simply understand our philosophy towards building boats.”
The resulting 41, designed by fellow Brit Tony Castro, delivers “comfort, speed and pride of ownership,” according to the company. The 41 carries classic lines with a retro hint and looks that represent a European version of a lobster boat. For his part, Castro calls it “a gentleman’s launch.”
But a fast launch, at that. With standard twin 370-hp Yanmar diesels and straight shafts, the Rustler 41 cruises at 25 knots and tops out at 35 knots. You also can order it with larger engines or pod drives.
It has a deep-V hull for offshore performance, building on Rustler’s sailboat reputation. In 2018, Rustler 36s came in first, second and third in the Golden Globe solo around the world race.
The Rustler 41 is a two-cabin, one-head cruiser, although owners can pretty much choose the layout they want. The salon has a two-person seat at the helm, with the galley aft on the starboard side. A U-shaped dinette is to port, with a table that can drop down to convert to a double berth.
A door aft opens to the cockpit with L-shaped seating in each quarter, plus a wet bar and more seating forward. A transom door opens to the swim platform for easy boarding, or storing a RIB; side doors provide access to the dock when moored alongside.
Below, the owner’s cabin is forward with a double berth. The second cabin is a bit aft. They share a head and a large stall shower.
