MarineMax Vacations just announced that it’s formed a partnership with Cruise Abaco, a long-time charter operator, to provide its power catamarans for chartering there. The MarineMax Vacations charters, on board its Aquila cats, will start this summer.
Chad Mcghee, president of Cruise Abaco, said he welcomed MarineMax Vacations “to the beautiful Abacos with our first-class charter experiences aboard the award-winning Aquila power catamarans.”
For his part, Raul Bermudez, VP of charter sales for MarineMax Vacations, said, “The reliability of a long-time charter operator as our partner makes this relationship a win-win for all parties, but most importantly for our customers.”
The Abacos offer some of the most beautiful waters and cruising grounds in this part of the world, with some 20 islands, white-sand beaches, small towns and Caribbean dining and dancing. For charters, they’re just a short plane ride from Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
They’re also one of my personal favorite destinations. Over the years, I’ve cruised there on displacement boats, sportfishing boats, fast boats and power catamarans, which have the advantage of low draft, a not inconsequential feature in the often-skinny waters there.
The new MarineMax and Cruise Abaco partnership offers a special “captained by day, bareboat by night” option. That means a local captain will be on board to provide help with navigation and running the boat during the day, but once the boat is moored for the night, the captain will leave to provide privacy for the people on board.
The MarineMax fleet in the Abacos will include the MarineMax 423, with three cabins and three heads; the MarineMax 443, also with three cabins and three heads, but with a king-sized bed in the master cabin and queen-sized beds in the other two; and the much larger MarineMax 545, with five cabins and heads, full-sized appliances, and several social spaces throughout the yacht.
