Apreamare Launches Classic Gozzo 38 Cabin

If you think a lot of new boats tend to look the same, consider the new Italian-built Gozzo 38 Cabin that carries the lines of Italian fishing boats plying the waters off Sorrento in 1849. Just launched at the Apreamare factory in Naples, the new all-weather Gozzo 38 Cabin will be cruising in northern Europe until its public unveiling at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

The Apreamare Gozzo 38 Cabin is a larger and more protected version of the company’s Gozzo 35, with more room inside and a deckhouse, surrounded by windows for visibility all around, that will ensure comfortable cruising no matter what’s happening outside.

The new Gozzo has a simple walkaround layout and the company’s signature rounded aft deck with a lounge set against the curved transom and doors on both sides for boarding. Large glass doors lead to the deckhouse, with an L-shaped sofa and table to port and the galley, just aft of the helm, to starboard.

Three steps down lead to the accommodations deck, where light filters in from glazing along the deckhouse’s lower sides. The master cabin is forward, with a double bed and an en suite head and shower. A second cabin is aft with a bed set athwartships and entrance to the second head.

The Gozzo 38 Cabin is powered by twin 320-hp Volvo diesels with shaft drives. Top speed is 28 knots; range is 202 nm at a cruising speed of 23 knots.

Apreamare dates to 1849, when Giovanni Apre started building “gozzo” styled fishing boats in Sorrento. The company turned to recreational boats after the Second World War, and joined the Cataldo Aprea family. It was part of the Ferretti Group from 2001 to 2010, when the families took it back.

On a personal note, I’ve driven Apreamares over the years in Italy and in Florida, and always found them to be solid and comfortable cruising boats, with a personality all their own.
