The Icon, the 43-foot cutting-edge electric foiling yacht, is now at a marina in Dubai available for charter for guests at four luxury hotels there.
Created by Designworks, a subsidiary of the BMW Group, and TYDE, a German startup, The Icon looks like nothing else on the water. It’s designed to provide a smooth, quiet and emissions-free ride for a group of passengers.
Power comes from two 100 kW electric motors with a battery capacity of 240 kWh. They deliver a top speed of 33 knots and a range of 50 nm at its cruising speed of 24 knots. The Icon has a climate-controlled interior with a blue-and-gold motif. Underway, the only sound guests hear comes from music by the Academy Award- and Grammy-winning composer Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, Dunkirk, Lion King).
The Icon is based at the D-Marin Masa Al Arab, a luxury marina with 82 slips. It’s at the tip of a peninsula near Dubai’s largest beach with a luxury destination resort, hotels and beach villas. The marina offers views of the sailboat-inspired Burj Al Arab Jumeirah and the wave-inspired Jumeirah Beach Hotel. From the marina, The Icon can reach Moon Island and the World Island nearby.
The Icon has a beam of 14’ 7” and a draft of just 2’ 7” when its foiling. The unique shape includes glass sides with prismatic window and roof surfaces. The center rises from the hull on both sides, giving full headroom to the passengers inside.
