New Jeanneau DB37 Outboard: Style and Speed

The new DB37 Outboard by Jeanneau is a premium day cruiser with outboard performance and an international pedigree.

Jeanneau is an upscale French brand, part of the worldwide Beneteau Group. The DB37 is the second in its DB (Day Boat) brand, following on the success of the initial DB43 that was launched two years ago. Camillo Garroni, the Italian designer, did the interior and exterior styling for the DBs, and Michael Peters, the American naval architect from Sarasota, Florida, did the hull. The DB line represented a new style for Jeanneau, with its plumb bow, low profile and Euro-modern design.

The DB37 is a two-cabin, one-head boat with a 50-mph top speed and agile performance from twin 450-hp outboards, primarily Mercurys or Yamahas. The European version of the boat has twin sterndrives, so the outboard version for the American market has a faster and sportier performance, plus a lot of storage space under the aft cockpit where the engines were for the sterndrives.

The DB37 is a social boat. It has three seats facing the helm, all behind a wide, integral windshield. An upper galley console is just behind them, all protected by a large hardtop. The galley has a large Corian counter, a grill, fridge, sink and lots of storage.

Two modular seats face each other across a table in the aft deck; you can drop the table and create a large sun lounge there. You also can push a button and deploy two platforms that fold out from the bulwarks, to form a much larger social space aft. Safe, recessed side decks lead to a large sun lounging area on the foredeck.

Below, a breakfast area with a microwave and fridge is on the port side. The master cabin is forward, with a queen-sized berth and standing headroom. The head is on the starboard side, and the second cabin is aft, tucked under the helm deck. It has two single berths that can be combined to sleep two people.
