Patrone Planning New Golden Age Cruiser

Patrone Boat just announced that it’s making a new 45 cruiser, a combination of modern technology and 1960s style, that’s designed for outdoor living.

The new Patrone is actually a larger (much larger) version of the 33-foot Patrone 100 that the company made two years ago to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Patrone, with its yard in western Liguria, near Genoa, hired Tommaso Spadolini, the prolific designer with his studio in an old church in Florence, to develop that boat to celebrate the golden age of yachting.

Spadolini usually designs superyachts, and he took that sensibility to the task. The result was that the Patrone 100 was the Italian version of a home run. “The Patrone 45 was built on the success of the Patrone 100 and the requests of many owners who wanted the same charm and elegance of that 10-meter boat on a larger scale,” he said. “For the Patrone 45 (as for its predecessor), our goal was to create an open cruiser designed for people who want to live the whole day outdoors without sacrificing absolute comfort in the interiors.”

The new Patrone is indeed an open boat (although the helm is protected by a T-top) with large spaces fore and aft for sunning and relaxing. It’s also 45’ 9” long so there’s plenty of room below for Spadolini’s luxurious interiors. Indeed, he designed five different interiors for potential owners to choose from, working with the basic layout of three cabins with two heads and a galley below.

“The only element we wanted to be immovable is the owner’s cabin with its bathroom in the bow,” Spadolini said. “Everything else can be developed on the requests of the future owner, who can also decide whether to have a second covered galley or only the one in the cockpit.”

The large cockpit has high sides for protection, and an eight-seat table that can be raised using hydraulics to access the engine room, with twin 440-hp Yanmar diesels with V-drives. The aft sun deck is more than 20 square feet large, and leads to an unusually sizeable swim platform for water access. There’s also a large open deck forward for more sunning and relaxing.

A family company, Patrone was founded in 1922, but it’s adapted with the times. Indeed, the new 45 will use sustainable materials as much as possible, with the deck built from eco-tech and the hull from resins with a low environmental impact, according to the company.

The new Patrone 45 will make its debut at the fall shows.
