Numbus, the ever-growing Swedish builder, just launched its new 495 Flybridge flagship, a big move up from the 405 Flybridge that had been its largest boat.
Nimbus says the 495 Flybridge is built for an owner-operator and it’s designed in the voyager or explorer style so a couple or a family can cruise comfortably along the coasts of Europe or the U.S. and spend long vacations on board. The company calls it “an island of its own.”
Standard power comes from twin 480-hp Volvo IPS650 pod drives, with a top speed of 27 knots and a cruising speed of 20 knots.
Founded in 1968, Nimbus Boats are now part of the Nimbus Group that includes Aquador, Bella, Paragon and other companies. The Group bought EdgeWater Boats in Florida in early 2023 and then introduced Aquador to the U.S. the same year. The Nimbus T8 center console is now being made at the EdgeWater plant.
The new 495 Flybridge represents a new size range for the builder, and Nimbus says it can be heavily customized. The basic boat has two staterooms with two heads below, and owners have the option of a third guest cabin with bunk beds or an office/utility room.
“With the 495 concept, we want to grow the coupe concept, while at the same time build on the legacy of Nimbus’ previous and existing coupe models,” said Joacim Gustavsson, the group’s head designer. “The salon is the very epicenter of the boat, the heart of the model. That’s where we live on board. That’s where we have the helm, the social lounge and the galley.”
The new Nimbus features Volvo’s glass cockpit in the lower helm station, with two 12-inch MFD plotters, Volvo’s joystick, Assisted Docking, and bow and stern thrusters. The boat also has a 230V genset, a lithium-ion battery package, solar panels that produce up to 400W, and a setup for in-house Wi-Fi and Starlink.
The galley is aft in the salon, with large rear windows opening to the aft deck for sociability. The aft deck has a settee and table, a grill and a wet bar. The foredeck has a large sun lounge that converts to U-shaped seating around a table.
The captain and a mate have seating at the flybridge helm station. A sofa and more seating and a large table are aft.
