Focus Yachts has carved out a special niche in the express-cruiser and day-boat market in Europe and now has a distributor in the U.S.A. The new 38-foot 3x, just launched this summer, combines exceptional performance with luxury and style that you might equate with a Maserati or Aston-Martin motorcar. One could easily imagine James Bond and a special Bond girl chasing villains in one of these.
But, we digress. The new 3x is the latest design to be introduced by this family-run boat building business based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. It joins four sister ships from 37 to 50 feet and shares with them the same somewhat exotic DNA.
The design has a wide array of power options to suite many different clients’ needs. The recommended package has two Yanmar ZT 370-horsepower diesels with E-Shift. But you could opt for the two smaller Volvos at 320 and 270 horsepower each.
Focus also offers twin Mercruiser 8.2s with 430-horsepower each that will make it fly. And, last but not least, they offer the 3x with twin Mercury Verado 5.7 V10 outboards rating out at 400-horsepower each.
The point is the company can and will provide you with all the power you can manage or just the right amount of power to suit your family’s needs.
The 3x’s styling is nothing short of futurist chic, and looks like it was designed and refined in a wind tunnel. The reverse sheer and curved salon top make it look like It could take flight, while the black hull bands, black cabin and black cove stripe add to its slightly menacing, raptor-like quality.
One of the design’s signature features will be the ability to turn the salon into an enclosed cabin with the large electric side windows in the up position and the over skylight closed. Then, with the sun shining, it can be converted into an outdoor space kind of like putting the top down on a convertible.
As a day boat, the 3x will get you to your beach or destination lickity-split fast and once there provide the sun beds, fore and aft, seating and small accommodation that will make a family or a band of friends feel right at home.
It has two sleeping cabins and a bench can be converted into a berth so a family of four could use the 3x for weekends or even a week or two of summer vacation.
Focus is a boutique builder so they like to work with clients on every new build and can be quite accommodating. The finished product will be special and will definitely stand out in a crowd.
This summer, Focus signed Yacht Creators of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to be the new U.S. distributor. In time, North Americans will have a chance to see the Focus line at boat shows and take test runs with the distributer and future dealers. I can’t wait the get behind the wheel of a 3x for a sea trial and put the hammer down to see what it can do. Read more here.
