New Greenline 58 Coupe Design Introduced

This summer, Greenline Yachts announced the introduction of the new design for a 58 Coupe, based on the hull and accommodations of the successful 58 Fly.  The new boat has an air draft of 12 feet so it is ideal for inland cruising and exploring America’s Great Loop.

Like all Greenline models, the 58 Coupe has three power options: twin diesels, twin electric hybrid engines and twin electric only motors. The boats are all equipped with large solar arrays and huge lithium battery banks.

The new 58 Coupe takes the solar component to a new level by providing 120 kW/hs of battery capacity and a solar generating capability of 20 kW/h per day. Greenline calculates that a cruising couple will consume 40 kW/h a day running all electronics and electrical appliances, including air conditioning. The net result will be three full days of living aboard without having to run a genset or the main engines to charge the batteries.

The boat’s electric power grid runs through a high-output inverter-charger so all electronics and appliances can run on 220 or 110 volts, which is more efficient than operating on the usual yacht systems with 12/24/48 volts.

Greenline has developed proprietary software to monitor and manage the electrical grid in the most efficient way. By maximizing solar input from the huge array on the coupe’s hardtop and minimizing draw from the battery bank, the 58 Coupe promises to be the “greenest” of all their designs.

The 58’s performance, based on the 58 Fly’s data, is impressive. The boat will have a top speed of 30 knots with the diesel and hybrid engines and an all-electric cruising speed of seven knots.

The 58 Coupe’s salon has a large U-shaped galley that will feel like a proper kitchen, a dinette that will seat six and a full-size sofa. The helm has good sight lines forward over the bow and the forward lounge atop the cabin.

The arrangement for sleeping cabins below can vary according to an owner’s needs, but will offer three cabins and heads as a starting point. The builder makes a point of offering to convert one cabin into an office with a single sofa bed so, as they say on their website, you don’t have to let work get in the way of your cruising adventures.

Like her sister ships, the 58 Coupe is a harmonious blend of modern hull design and systems with a more traditional yacht-style fit and finish. Using lots of varnished wood and muted fabrics, the new design will make her owners feel like there are at home.
